Microsoft will no longer provide technical assistance or feature / security updates for Windows 10 after the 14 October 2025 end-of support deadline. Although computers will continue to work, the operating system will be at a greater risk for virus and malware attack.
This is no different to the transition from earlier Windows operating systems However, as with all unpatched software, and the increasing risk of AI in hacking, the vulnerabilities will increase over time. Internet browsing and working with older applications become “glitchy” – lack of support for emerging issues is usually a motivation for users to upgrade or purchase a new system.
Extended Security Update Programme – Non-Commercial / Home Users
The ESU Programme for Consumers / Education Users is available at cost (30$ or less for 12 months only) but the programme is now free for one year to all individual users with Windows 10 devices running 22H2
Look for the enrolment wizard link in Settings - Windows Update and Security, then click to Enroll,
